Direct School Admission to Year 1 in 2022


Cedar Girls’ Secondary School (CGSS) would like to invite Primary 6 girls to apply for admission to Year 1 in 2022 under the Direct School Admission into secondary schools (DSA-Sec) scheme. Students could apply for the 4-year O-Level Programme in CGSS or the 6-year Victoria-Cedar Alliance Integrated Programme (VCA IP), which consists of 4 years in CGSS and 2 years in Victoria Junior College (VJC).

CGSS offers DSA in both the Sports and Social Innovation categories. 

DSA (Sports)
We offer DSA (Sports) in Badminton, Basketball, Netball, Table Tennis, Track & Field, or Volleyball. The programme aims to develop students’ talents and potentials in the various sports categories. 

Our sports programme comprises:
a. Quality and rigorous trainings by experienced coaches
b. Joint training with VCA schools (i.e. VJC)
c. Extensive range of competitions 
d. Workshops for student-athletes (e.g., mental toughness)

DSA (Social Innovation) 
Our DSA (Social Innovation) programme aims to develop students to be advocates for social change and their talents in creating user-centric solutions for the community that they serve. 

The programme comprises:
a. Design Thinking Workshops- Global Scholarship Programme
b. STEM-related workshops 
c. Entrepreneurship and communication workshops
d. Conferences and competitions
e. Research on social issues and presentation opportunities

Sports Experience 

a. Relevant representation or achievement in the related sports at zonal or national competitions
b. Be a member of Junior Sports Academy (JSA) or school team
c. Any other relevant sports experience

 

 

 

 

e-modes will be applied for the  selection process conducted in applicant’s primary school.

 

Interview and/or performance tasks via Zoom.

 

 

 

 

DSA (Social Innovation)

 

Service to the Community

Values-In-Action Projects (school initiated) and/or volunteer experience at organisation of choice

 

Innovation-related competitions (If any):

Representation or achievement in National, Zonal or school based or non-school based innovation competitions.

Examples of relevant competitions are Sony Creative Awards, Junior Lego Robotics Competition, Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors Awards, Innovation Awards (MOE- IVP).

 

Please note that meeting all the criteria does not guarantee the student will be shortlisted or given an offer.

Application Process

  • Application for DSA-Sec can be submitted through the online DSA-Sec Portal from 5 May 2021, 11.00am – 1 Jun 2021, 3.00pm.  The portal can be assessed through this link: https://www.moe.gov.sg/dsa-sec.

  • Applicants NOT studying in MOE mainstream primary schools: A placement test may be conducted for Returning Singaporeans and non-mainstream students in foreign system schools and private education institutions to assess their course suitability.

 

 

Submission of Documents

Shortlisted applicants will be required to submit the following documents. Please scan and email the documents to cedargirlss@moe.edu.sg. Please indicate in your subject title: DSA 2021_DSA Category_ Name of Primary School_Name of student.

Applicants studying in MOE mainstream primary schools

Applicants who are NOT studying in MOE mainstream primary schools

1. Not required to submit any hard copies of any school-based results activities and achievements.


2. Certificates of non-school based activities and achievements relevant to the selected talent area(s) if any.

 

1. Certified True Copy of

a. Primary 5 Overall and Primary 6 Mid-Year Combined Examination Results

b. Certificate of CCA participation, achievements and leadership roles in school


2. Certificate of participation in community based projects or activities


3. Certificates of  non-school based activities and achievements


4. A photocopy of the Registration Number Form

 

Note: Certified True Copy refers to copy stamped with primary school’s endorsement.

Notification of outcome

By 13 Sep

Students studying in MOE mainstream schools will receive the DSA-Sec results together with their PSLE results. The rest of the students will receive their DSA-Sec results via email.

 

Important Points to Note
Parents and students are encouraged to choose schools wisely based on the student’s aptitudes and strengths, bearing in mind the school’s profile, and the programmes available to develop the area of talent.

 

Successful applicants will be admitted if they accept the DSA offer and qualify for the Express Course after the release of the PSLE results. Please take note that once applicants have exercised the Confirmed Offer or Wait List, they are not allowed to participate in the Secondary One Posting Exercise. They are also not allowed to transfer to another school after the release of the PSLE results.

 

Students who are successfully admitted to the school via DSA are expected to honour their commitment to the school and programme (4 years for the O-Level track or 6 years for the Integrated Programme), and participate in the activities related to the talent they are selected for from year 1-4.
