Handbell Ensemble

The Cedar Handbell Ensemble (CHE) was established in 2000, and is one of eight privileged schools to own handbells and handchimes. The CHE has 56 ringers, some of whom have been playing since their primary school days.

In 2011, we became the only school to be awarded Gold with Honours in the SYF Central Judging. Ever since then, we have been receiving many opportunities to perform and showcase our works. Under the instruction of Mr Baba Damien Lim, a prominent figure in Singapore and in the International Handbell network, our handbell team continues to grow from strength to strength.

Over the years, the CHE had the honour to learn from many professionals in the music scene, including RingTouch from Hong Kong, the Ministry of Bellz from Singapore, and famous conductors such as Miss Emily Li from Hong Kong, Mr Malcolm Wilson from Scotland and Mr Toshikazu Yoshida, a world-renowned conductor, from Japan. The latter’s visit in February 2015 has benefitted our ringers with his invaluable insights and advice.

Our recent performances include a first-ever sensory concert held in Victoria Theatre on 30 January 2016. It was an opportunity to give back to the community by performing for an audience that included children with special needs.
